The purpose of Hafið is to create a platform for the collaboration between privatecompanies, public and private institutions, local and national authorities and research institutes.
Hafið aims to raise awareness and highlight the importance of ocean related issues.The platform hosts collaborative projects.Hafið (originally Oceana) was founded at the Arctic Circle conference in Iceland the 31st October 2014 by 14 private firms, public institutes and industry federations that acknowledge the need to join forces for the benefit of the ocean.
In the first year of operation, a considerable number of parties have joined the platform and a number of parties have shown interest.
Anna Margrét Kornelíusdóttir took over as Project Manager in the autumn of 2019 when Icelandic New Energy assumed responsibility for Hafið’s daily operation. At the same time, Sigríður Ragna Sverrisdóttir moved on to work at Klappir. Anna Margrét received her Master’s degree in Environment and Natural Resources from the University of Iceland’s Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. She has been at Icelandic New Energy since 2015.
